Introducing the area’s top lacrosse stars for 2017

Fayette continues to carve out its place as one of the up-and-coming hotbeds of lacrosse talent, and with the end of the season comes honors for our finest players.

The Fayette County Lacrosse Club, a premier source of local teams, has again selected the 2017 All South Metro Boys Lacrosse Team. The team is comprised of boys from the Fayette and Coweta County high school squads. There is also an All-County Lacrosse Team made up of just the girls from Fayette County, McIntosh, Starr’s Mill, and Whitewater as nominated by their coaches.

All South Metro Boys Player of the Year honors go to Evan Torris of Starr’s Mill. Morris, a senior midfielder, is committed to play at Lenoir-Rhyne. His coach, Jeff Schmidlkofer, is South Metro Coach of the Year.

Jalen Knight of McIntosh is All-County Girls Player of the Year. Knight, a senior midfielder, posted 69 goals, 9 assists, and 26 ground balls.

Ryanne King of Starr’s Mill is All-County Freshman of the Year. King scored 68 goals and racked up 24 assists and 21 ground balls.

The boys first team is made up of attackers Ethan Sack (Starr’s Mill), Avery Jenks (Starr’s Mill), Tanner Price (McIntosh), and Eric Malever (Woodward Academy), midfielders Torris, Garrett LeClaire (McIntosh), and Zach Jones (McIntosh), defenders Collin Gibson (Whitewater), Cade Thomas (Woodward), and Billy Ross (East Coweta), and goalie Isaac Bohrer (Whitewater).

The second team consists of Brooks Baro (McIntosh), Jack Byrum (Whitewater), and Aaron Perry (ELCA), midfielders Ryan Cockes (Starr’s Mill), Ben Wilkinson (Woodward), and Michael Bell (ELCA), defenders Alec Mills (Starr’s Mill), Mike Jones (Whitewater), and Austin Cantrell (Newnan), and goalie Grant Montgomery (McIntosh).

The All-County Girls Team is made up of Starr’s Mill’s King, Ansley Wallace, Alyssa Angelo, Carly Gainey, and Caroline Andrews, McIntosh’s Knight, Delaney Baro, Sammy Morgan, Mikaela Rohn, Maddie Sy, and Marie Ogletree, Whitewater’s Rose Perkins, Parker Lewis, Jessie Landers, and Rachael Henderson, and Fayette County’s Trinity Brown, Jocelyn Arnold, and Alyssa Klinger.

Wallace, a sophomore, posted 63 goals, 18 assists, and 12 ground balls. Angelo, a sophomore, tallied 7 goals, 11 assists, and 32 ground balls. Gainey, a senior, contributed 4 goals, 1 assist, and 20 ground balls. Andrews, a sophomore, added 26 goals, 27 assists, and 26 ground balls.

Baro, a junior midfielder, tallied 56 goals, 27 assists, and 22 ground balls. Morgan, a freshman midfielder and defender, added 16 goals, 18 assists, and 33 ground balls. Rohn, a sophomore midfielder and defender, contributed 14 goals, 3 assists, and 43 ground balls. Sy, a junior midfielder, notched 16 goals, 7 assists, and 28 ground balls. Ogletree, a junior attacker, notched 48 goals and 13 assists.

Perkins, an attacker, posted 53 goals and 23 assists. Lewis, a defender, grabbed 66 ground balls, good for sixth in the state, along with 34 interceptions and caused turnovers. Landers, a goalie, posted a 50.1 save percentage, ranking seventh in the state. Henderson, an attacker, tallied 37 goals and 21 assists.

Brown, an attacker and midfielder, posted 30 goals and 24 ground balls. Arnold, a midfielder, notched 16 goals, 2 assists, and 17 ground balls. Klinger, a midfielder and goalie, posted 9 goals, 12 ground balls, and won 22 draws, while also notching 52 saves in 150 minutes as a goalie.
