No injuries in hospital fire

Fayetteville firefighters, with assistance from county crews, spent two hours tracking down a small fire that produced big smoke within the walls of Piedmont Fayette Hospital late Friday morning.

According to Fayetteville Fire Chief Alan Jones, the nearly-midday fire alarm call was quickly upgraded to warrant a full response when smoke was seen coming from the walls near the portion of the hospital that is currently undergoing expansion. He said crews cut through walls to find the source, which he says is believed to have been molten metal produced from nearby welding.

Hospital officials say patients were evacuated from nearby rooms.
